Washer not draining? What to check
Finding water in the drum after a wash can be frustrating. A washer may fail to drain because of a blocked filter or hose, an interrupted cycle, or a fault that needs diagnosis. These simple checks can help you describe the problem without dismantling the machine.
Start with the cycle and controls
Check whether the washer has paused, displayed an error, or is still completing a drain or spin stage. If the manual allows it, select a drain or spin cycle once. Avoid repeatedly restarting the machine if it makes an unusual sound or shows a warning.
Check the drain hose safely
Look at the visible part of the drain hose for kinks, crushing or an obvious obstruction. Do not pull the appliance out if it is heavy or difficult to move, and do not disconnect plumbing unless the manufacturer?s instructions say it is safe.
Use care with the filter
Some models have a user-accessible pump filter. Consult the manual before opening it: water may spill out, so prepare towels and a shallow container, and unplug the appliance first if the instructions require it. Never force a stuck cover or reach into the pump.
When to arrange a repair
Stop using the washer and contact a technician if water is leaking, the machine trips power, there is a burning smell, or the pump makes a loud grinding noise. Share the model, any error code, and when the water remains in the drum to help guide diagnosis.
